Self-Dumping Hoppers & Scrap Containers

Forklift hoppers and scrap containers that collect, move, and dump chips, scrap, and waste.

Self-Dumping Hoppers

Self-Dumping Hoppers and Scrap Containers for Forklift Handling

Scrap, chips, and waste pile up at every machine and workstation, and moving it by hand or by the shovelful eats labor. A self-dumping hopper lets one forklift operator pick up the load, drive it to the dumpster, and empty it from the seat.

This collection covers standard, D-style bump-release, H-style low profile, high strength, and hydraulic self-dumping hoppers, plus portable hoppers on casters, low profile parts hoppers for machine chips, drop bottom, open side, and rotator box hoppers, and a three-bin recycling hopper.

Size It by Volume, Weight, and Duty

Sizing

Size It by Volume, Weight, and Duty

Steel self-dumping hoppers in this collection span 1/4 to 5 cubic yards, with load ratings from 2,000 to 6,000 lb. On the D-style hoppers the duty level sets the steel: light at 12 gauge and 2,000 lb, medium at 10 gauge and 4,000 lb, and heavy at 8 gauge and 6,000 lb.

Dense scrap fills weight before volume, so a small heavy-duty hopper often beats a large light one. For dropped metal, stone, or glass, the high strength hoppers use steel rated at 100,000 PSI yield. Tell us what goes in the hopper and how it is emptied, and we will size it.

Dump Styles

How the Hopper Empties

Cable Release

The operator pulls a cable from the forklift seat and the hopper dumps at a full 90 degrees, then returns upright and locks when lowered.

Bump Release

D-style and H-style bump and dump hoppers tip automatically when they contact the dumpster, with a manual cable as backup.

Hydraulic

Hydraulic dumping hoppers tie into the forklift's hydraulic system and dump under power from the driver's seat.

Options

Configured for What You Collect

Leak-Proof and Drain Plugs

Leak-proof welded seams, drain plugs, and lids are offered on many hoppers in this collection for wet chips and coolant.

Casters

Portable hoppers roll on glass-filled nylon casters with a foot-operated lock, and caster kits are offered for other models.

Low Profile Loading

Low profile, open ended, and fold-down front hoppers let operators place or shovel material in with less lifting.

Tell us what you collect, how much, and how you empty it.

We will size the hopper volume, steel, and dump style to your material and forklift and quote it.

Dump From the Seat

Dump From the Seat

Pull the cable or bump the dumpster, and the hopper tips forward to empty, then comes back upright and locks when it is lowered.

Safety chains or restraints hold the hopper to the forks during transport and dumping.

Chips Out From Under the Machine

Chips Out From Under the Machine

Low profile parts hoppers in 10 gauge steel slide under machine tools to catch chips and scrap, in 1/2 or 1/3 cubic yard volumes rated at 2,000 lb.

Optional 3/4 or 2 inch threaded drain plugs help with coolant and washdown.

Frequently Asked Questions

Start with the weight of a full load, not just the volume. Dense scrap like steel chips reaches the weight rating before the hopper is full. Send us the material and how much you collect between dumps, and we will recommend volume and duty level.
D-style hoppers dump automatically when they contact the side of a dumpster, with a manual cable release as well. H-style low profile hoppers dump by cable from the forklift seat, and H-style bump and dump models add the automatic bump release.
Many hoppers in this collection offer leak-proof welded seams and drain plugs as options. One of the scrap hoppers is not rated for liquids in its standard form. Tell us what you are collecting and we will quote the right configuration.
The hoppers use fork pockets or fork tubes. Send us your fork dimensions and truck capacity, and follow the forklift's own load center rating when sizing.
Yes. Portable steel hoppers ride on casters with a foot-operated lock, low profile parts hoppers and open ended hoppers have casters, and caster kits are offered for several other models.
Lead time is quoted per order, based on the hopper size, steel, color, and options you choose.
