Column Protectors

Guards and pads that take the hit so the building column, the I-beam or the downspout behind them does not.

Column protection

Guards for columns, beams and pipe

Anything vertical standing in a traffic aisle gets hit eventually. The guards and pads on this page protect building columns, structural columns and I-beams, and one is built specifically for the columns under gantry and jib cranes.

Materials and duty vary across the group. There is a polyethylene I-beam protector, protective pads for building columns, and a hexagonal column guard made from 1/4 inch steel in a 48 inch height. Which one fits depends on the column and on what is moving around it.

Downspout and pipe guards here cover 2 to 12 inch pipe, for the drain lines and exposed pipe that end up in the way near dock doors. If the column or pipe you need covered is an odd size, send the dimensions and what is moving near it and we can match a guard to it.

Picking the right guard

How to spec

Picking the right guard

Start with the column itself. Measure across the face and decide how much height you want covered, because the products here differ in both. Then look at the surroundings: a crane column, a building column in an open aisle and a downspout at a dock door are three different problems.

Steel guards and protective pads suit different situations, so it helps to know whether you are dealing with occasional contact from foot and cart traffic or a working aisle with powered equipment in it.
