Selective Pallet Racking Systems

Selective racking is the workhorse of warehouse storage: single-deep bays that give a forklift direct access to every pallet, on every level, without moving anything else first. It is the most widely used system in the industry because it is the most flexible, any pallet, any time, no sequencing.

A selective system is built from upright frames and horizontal beams sized to your loads and your building. Beams are set on the frame at whatever heights your pallets need and re-set later as your product mix changes, so the same rack adapts as your operation does. We spec the frame gauge, beam capacity, and layout to your pallet weights, ceiling height, and aisle widths, and send general drawings with your order. Stamped drawings and permitting are available on request.

Structural or Roll-Formed, Sized to Your Loads

How It Works

Structural or Roll-Formed, Sized to Your Loads

Two build styles cover most warehouses. Roll-formed racking uses a teardrop beam-to-frame connection that adjusts on 2-inch centers and goes up fast, the right call for standard pallet loads and general distribution. Structural racking is bolted heavy-gauge steel that takes far harder hits from lift traffic and carries higher capacities, the choice for freezer, high-throughput, or seismic environments.

Capacity is engineered, not guessed. Every layout is rated to your actual pallet weight, beam length, and the number of levels, and comes with the load ratings documented for your safety file. One rule matters most: components from different manufacturers cannot be mixed in a single system without voiding the rated capacity, so replacement beams and frames are matched to what you already own, or the whole bay is specified new.

Applications

Where Selective Racking Fits

Distribution & Fulfillment

Direct access to every SKU makes selective racking the default for pick operations where order lines change constantly and nothing can be buried behind something else.

Manufacturing & Raw Stock

Store raw material, work-in-process, and finished pallets in the same run of rack, with beam levels reset as the product mix shifts through the year.

Cold Storage & Freezer

Structural racking stands up to the lift traffic and temperature swings of cold environments, with capacities engineered for dense, heavy pallet loads.

Why Selective

Every pallet, one reach away

100% Pallet Access

Every pallet position is reachable directly from the aisle: no shuffling, no sequencing, no last-in-first-out constraints on what you can pick when.

Adjustable As You Grow

Beams reposition on the frame as pallet sizes and product change, so a system bought for today's loads keeps working as the operation evolves.

Engineered to Standard

Layouts are quoted with load ratings for each bay, so the capacity is on record for your safety file. Stamped drawings are available on request.

Direct Access, Every Position

Direct Access, Every Position

Selective racking gives a lift operator a straight reach to every pallet on every level. Nothing is stored behind anything else, so any SKU is available at any time without moving other loads first: the reason it remains the most-used system in distribution and manufacturing alike.

Because beams re-set on the frame, the same rack handles a pallet of light cartons on one level and a heavy drum load on the next, and re-configures when your product changes. You buy a system for the building, not just for this quarter's inventory.

Built to Your Building

Built to Your Building

Frame height, beam length, capacity, and aisle width are all specified to your space: ceiling clearance, sprinkler layout, lift equipment, and pallet dimensions all feed the design. The result is a layout that uses the cubic space you are paying for without fighting your fire or lift constraints.

Every system is engineered to documented load ratings and, where the zone calls for it, seismic requirements, and stamped drawings are available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Selective racking stores pallets one-deep so a forklift reaches every position directly from the aisle. High-density systems like push-back or drive-in store pallets several deep to save floor space, but you give up direct access to each pallet. Most warehouses run selective because the flexibility is worth the aisle space.
No. Different manufacturers' components are not rated to work together, and mixing them voids the engineered capacity of the system, which becomes your liability. When you replace or extend a system, the new components are matched to what you already have, or the bay is specified new as a set. Send us what you own and we will match it.
Capacity comes from your heaviest pallet weight, the beam length, and how many levels you are loading. Tell us those three things (or send a photo and rough dimensions), and we spec the frame gauge and beam rating with the load capacity documented for your records.
Layouts account for seismic requirements where the zone calls for them. General drawings are provided with your order, and stamped drawings for permit are available on request.
