Floor Cranes & Engine Hoists

Portable floor cranes and engine hoists for lifting engines, dies, motors, and parts in the shop.

Floor Cranes

Floor Cranes and Engine Hoists for Shops and Plants

Not every lift justifies an overhead crane. Pulling an engine, setting a die, or moving a motor onto a bench happens in different spots around the shop, and a portable floor crane goes to the work instead of the work going to a fixed hoist.

This collection covers hydraulic shop crane engine hoists, an air and hand pump shop crane, counterbalanced floor cranes with no front legs, electric powered floor cranes with powered drive and lift, and portable cantilever hoists with a rotating boom.

Capacity, Reach, and What Is in the Way

Choosing a Crane

Capacity, Reach, and What Is in the Way

Start with the heaviest load and how far out it sits. Every crane in this collection loses capacity as the boom extends, so size it to the load at the reach you actually need. Shop crane engine hoists go up to 6,000 lb depending on model, the air/hand pump crane to 4,000 lb, and the counterbalanced cranes come in 500, 1,000, and 2,000 lb capacities.

Then look at access. Standard shop cranes have front legs that need to straddle or slide under the load. Counterbalanced cranes remove the front legs for access around machinery and workstations. Send us the load weight, the reach, and a photo of where the lift happens, and we will match the crane.

Options

Manual, Air, or Electric

Hydraulic Shop Cranes

Hand pump engine hoists with telescoping booms, in foldable-leg versions for compact storage or fixed telescopic legs for added stability.

Counterbalanced Cranes

No front legs, so the crane gets close to machines and dies. Manual hydraulic, pneumatic, or electric DC depending on model.

Electric Floor Cranes

24V DC powered drive and lift with variable forward and reverse speed and an electromagnetic brake that engages when the handle is released.

Features That Show Up Across the Line

Telescoping Booms

Booms extend to trade capacity for reach. The air/hand pump crane has four boom settings for different heights and capacities.

Large-Diameter Rams

The shop crane engine hoists and the air/hand pump crane use a large-diameter ram built to tolerate angled loads.

360 Degree Rotation

Portable cantilever hoists rotate the boom a full 360 degrees and reach up to 50-3/8 inches beyond the frame.

Send us the load weight, the reach you need, and a photo of the lift area.

We will match the floor crane or engine hoist to the lift and quote it.

Get Close to the Machine

Get Close to the Machine

Counterbalanced floor cranes use a counterweight instead of front legs, so the crane can reach dies, molds, and motors inside a machine or across a workstation.

An optional power traction drive lets one operator move a loaded crane.

Lift on Air, Finish by Hand

Lift on Air, Finish by Hand

The air/hand pump shop crane lifts at 7 to 8 inches per second on shop air, and the hand pump backup moves the load about 1/2 inch per stroke when air is not available.

It folds down to save space.

Frequently Asked Questions

Size it to the heaviest load at the boom extension you need, not the maximum rating. Capacity drops as the boom extends on every crane in this collection. Send us the load weight and the reach and we will pick the model and boom setting.
Choose a counterbalanced floor crane. It uses a counterweight instead of front legs, which gives unobstructed access around machinery and workstations.
Hand pump cranes cost less and suit occasional lifts. The electric floor cranes add powered drive and lift, variable travel speed, and an automatic brake, which suits frequent lifts and longer moves. The air/hand pump crane is a middle option if you have shop air.
Shop crane engine hoists with collapsible legs fold for compact storage, and the air/hand pump crane folds down as well.
Lead time is quoted per order, based on the model and options you choose.
