Benefits of gravity conveyors

Why choose a gravity conveyor over other types of conveyor systems? Here are a few benefits to consider:

Easy to Maintain

With no electric parts to wear out, you won’t need a mechanic to keep your system running. Even a heavy-duty gravity roller conveyor has only three parts – a frame, supports, and rollers.

Low-Cost Efficiency

Gravity rollers move items fast and with little effort, freeing up worker time and energy. They’re an inexpensive way to boost productivity and throughput.

Versatility

These machines can be applied in almost any industry, including shipping and receiving, order fulfillment, and light assembly. Curved sections allow gravity conveyors to navigate corners, merge, or branch off other lines.

No Noise or Heat

The non-powered nature of a gravity conveyor means no noise or heat from a running motor. It’s a low-maintenance solution that won’t add to your facility’s electrical bill.

How do gravity conveyors work?

Gravity conveyors operate by using the force of gravity to move items down an incline. The design and layout depend on the size of the items you plan to move. For smooth operation, ensure there are always at least three rollers under a load at any time to prevent items from getting stuck.

Heavy-duty roller conveyors are ideal for large containers that are difficult to move by forklift, such as wire bins, wooden crates, or barrels. Although flexible, gravity conveyors are not ideal for all situations since there is no way to stop the items from moving without physically intervening.

Popular Conveyor Models

Our expert installers can set up your gravity roller conveyor in any part of your facility. The simple construction makes these devices flexible and scalable, allowing us to work within the constraints of your facility’s footprint.

Model RB Horizontal Belt Conveyor

Designed to handle heavier loads, this roller bed conveyor reduces friction and increases capacity, making it ideal for assembly, inspection, and packing lines.

Model RB Horizontal Belt Conveyor

Equipped with an adjustable nose-over at the discharge end, this incline conveyor ensures smooth transitions between incline and horizontal sections.

Move Items Safely

Avoid Pinch Points: Prevent injuries by reducing pinch points between frame sections where workers can get caught.
Training: Train workers to never stand or lean on a gravity roller conveyor system, as the low-friction surface can roll out from under them.
Proper Grade: Consult an experienced professional about the appropriate grade for your gravity conveyor’s incline to ensure safety and efficiency.

What goes into your gravity conveyor

Rollers

Standard roller sizes are 1.5-inch, 1.9-inch, 2.5-inch, and 3.5-inch diameters.

  • Light-duty: 1.5-inch rollers for loads less than 100 pounds.
  • Medium-duty: 1.9-inch rollers for loads between 100 and 250 pounds.
  • Heavy-duty: 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch rollers for very heavy loads.

Frame

Steel frames are the strongest and most durable, with aluminum as an option for a lightweight solution. Most frames come in 5-foot or 10-foot sections that connect to customize the conveyor length. Curved sections can carry items around obstacles or merge lines.

Supports

Made of the same material as the frame, supports are typically positioned every 8 feet along the conveyor length. For very heavy items, supports may need to be closer together.

We help you build solutions that last for years

A heavy-duty gravity roller conveyor is a workhorse that will benefit your facility for years. To get the full value from your purchase, take time at the beginning to set yourself up for success. Miscalculating the size, type, or layout you need will yield disappointing results.
